Shakey Byrne Sues for £1 Million After Career-Ending Crash at Snetterton

Hey ThrottleChimp™ crew, we've got a big story in the world of British Superbikes . Legendary rider Shane "Shakey" Byrne is suing race organizers, the track owner, and the governing body for a whopping £1 million after a crash that cut his career short .

Byrne, a six-time champion and absolute unit on the track (seriously, this guy's a beast! ️), was testing at Snetterton in 2018 when he lost control and slammed into the barriers. The accident left him with brutal spinal injuries and forced him to retire from the sport he dominated for years .

Here's the thing, Shakey reckons the organizers could've done more to protect riders in case of a crash. He says stuff like air fencing should've been there to soften the blow instead of that "vast, dense blackness" of a solid tire wall .

The race organizers, track owner, and governing body (all getting a taste of the lawsuit pie) are saying "hold on a sec, Shakey!" They reckon it was actually his riding that caused the crash, not a lack of safety measures. They even through some shade at air fencing, saying it's not a guaranteed get-out-of-injury-free card ‍♂️.

Shakey's lawyer is basically like "come on guys, this dude's a champion! He knows his limits!" He even showed a video of Shakey's mad skills to prove it . Lawyer-dude says the high speeds involved in Superbikes mean there's always a risk, but the organizers should've done more to minimize that risk by adding extra protection ️.

The case is still r rumbling on, so we'll have to wait and see how the judge calls it. In the meantime, let's all wish Shakey the best as he continues his recovery .

This whole situation is a real reminder of the dangers these riders face, even the most experienced ones. It also throws a spotlight on track safety and how important it is to constantly improve it .

What do you guys think? Should Shakey win the case? Let us know in the comments !
