Gearheads and F1 fanatics, listen up! ThrottleChimp™ is here to celebrate the incredible collaboration between Ducati and the legendary Ayrton Senna, resulting in a seriously drool-worthy motorcycle - the Monster Senna
Senna wasn't just a master of the racetrack in his four-wheeled chariots. This Brazilian icon was a true petrolhead at heart, and Ducatis held a special place in his garage. Whether cruising the streets of São Paulo or Monaco, Senna was often spotted on two wheels, and more often than not, it was a Ducati he was riding
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of Senna's passing, Ducati has crafted a stunning tribute in the form of the Monster Senna. This special edition motorcycle takes the already impressive 937cc Testastretta-powered Monster platform and injects it with a serious dose of Senna-inspired style. ⚡
The first thing that grabs your attention is the striking livery. Taking cues from Senna's iconic helmet throughout his career, the Monster Senna boasts a vibrant blend of yellow, green, and blue, a true nod to the Brazilian flag 🇧🇷. But the beauty goes far beyond the surface.
This Monster is a beast on the road too! Packing 111 hp from its twin-cylinder engine, fully adjustable Öhlins suspension, and top-shelf Brembo Stylema brakes, the Monster Senna is built to perform. Sharp-eyed riders will notice the forged wheels and brake calipers with splashes of yellow and green, while the custom-designed blue seat adds a touch of Senna flair.
Adding to the exclusivity, the Monster Senna sheds a cool 10 pounds compared to the standard Monster, making it a featherweight at a sleek 385 pounds (unfueled) .
But wait, there's more! Ducati is only crafting 341 units of this beauty, each featuring a special plaque on the triple clamp that proudly displays the model name and the bike's unique production number. Every Monster Senna also comes with a dedicated motorcycle cover, making it a true collector's item for any Senna or Ducati enthusiast
The choice of the Monster platform for this tribute is particularly fitting. Back in 1990, when the original Monster 900 roared onto the scene, Senna was one of the very first riders to snag one. There's even a legendary photo of the champion cruising around in a tuxedo and a half-shell helmet (safety first, maybe not Senna's strongest suit ) on a red Monster 900.
Ducati's relationship with Senna goes even deeper. Around the same time, the owner of Ducati, Claudio Castiglioni, gifted Senna a stunning Ducati 851 SPK. The bond continued when Senna fell head-over-heels for the revolutionary Ducati 916. This passion led to a collaboration between Senna and Ducati to create a special edition 916 Senna, a machine limited to only 300 units. Tragically, Senna passed away at Imola just months before production began. Ducati honored him again in 2014 with a limited edition run of 1199 Panigale sportbikes under Senna's name, with 161 finding homes in the Brazilian market.
While Ducati remains tight-lipped about the official pricing, they did unveil the Monster Senna at the paddock of the Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack at Imola. The official public reveal is set for the upcoming Formula 1 Grand Prix at Imola on Sunday, May 19th. Stay tuned, ThrottleChimp™ will be sure to bring you all the details!
In the words of Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, "Senna was one of the very first owners of the Monster 900 and perfectly represented the values of this bike: style, boldness, and fun. The Monster Senna demonstrates how honored we are to define a champion of this incredible level as a true Ducatista."
So, will the Monster Senna be gracing your garage anytime soon? Let us know in the comments what you think of this incredible tribute to a legend
