Hold on to your helmets, racing fans! The Moto2™ and Moto3™ classes are about to hit the track for three action-packed days at the iconic Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling 2024 season.
Moto2: A Changing of the Guard
With Pedro Acosta making the leap to MotoGP, the Moto2 field is wide open, and the spotlight is on last season's top contenders. Tony Arbolino, the runner-up in 2023, aims to capitalise on his three wins and maintain momentum with the Elf Marc VDS Racing Team.
However, Fermin Aldeguer, ending 2023 with four consecutive wins, holds the heavy favourite tag. The Spanish sensation is poised to challenge for his maiden Grand Prix title. Meanwhile, Jake Dixon, donning new colours for CFMOTO Aspar Team, has his eyes on the championship after narrowly missing out on bronze last season.
Aron Canet, moving to Fantic Racing, and Celestino Vietti, joining Red Bull KTM Ajo, add spice to the mix. Keep an eye on Ai Ogura, tackling a Boscoscuro chassis, and the return of Joe Roberts in American Racing colours. Filip Salač, now with Elf Marc VDS Racing Team, is ready for a fresh start.
The rookie list boasts Moto3™ World Champion Jaume Masia, Ayumu Sasaki, Deniz Öncü, Diogo Moreira, Xavier Artigas, and Mario Aji, making their mark in the intermediate class. The three days at Jerez will be crucial for them to adapt to the new challenge.
Moto3: Rookies and Returning Stars
Moto3™ promises another season of heart-stopping action with six of last year's top 10 riders returning. Star rookie David Alonso, leading the returnees, aims for more victories and another title charge with CFMOTO Aspar Team.
Daniel Holgado, entering his third season, is a pre-season favourite after an impressive 2023 campaign with seven podium finishes. Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) and Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) are ready for new challenges, both finishing inside the top seven last season.
Watch out for Jose Antonio Rueda and David Muñoz, hungry for more podium finishes after last year's success. Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports), Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia), and Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) aim to consistently reach the rostrum.
The Moto3 rookie class is nothing short of exciting, featuring Angel Piqueras, Lorenzo Dalla Porta, Xabi Zurutuza, Tatchakorn Buasri, Nicola Carraro, Jacob Roulstone, Noah Dettwiler, and Joel Esteban. Jerez will serve as the testing ground for these young talents before the real battles begin.
Get ready for three days of screeching tyres, roaring engines, and adrenaline-pumping excitement as Jerez becomes the battleground for Moto2 and Moto3 stars. The 2024 season is about to kick into high gear, and this test session is the perfect appetiser for what promises to be another unforgettable year in motorcycle racing. Stay tuned for all the twists, turns, and triumphs!
